Entry and Exit Decisions
Deciding whether a competitive firm should enter a market in the long run or shut down in the short run, and finding the break-even and shut-down prices.
An entrepreneur is deciding whether to open a bicycle workshop that services racing bikes. If it opens, its weekly cost of producing q services would be TC(q) = tc dollars, where the fixed $fixed (rent and equipment leases) is avoided entirely by not opening. The market is competitive: the bicycle workshop can sell any number of services at the market price, which it takes as given. The business plan foresees producing q0 services a week. What is the lowest market price per service at which opening the bicycle workshop would not lose money in the long run? Round to the cent.
